For those dedicated to the development and optimization of public spaces. Foreword by UN-Habitat
Effective evaluation of public spaces is crucial for enhancing urban life and ensuring they serve their communities effectively. In this context, Evergreen’s Public Space Evaluation Toolkit emerges as a valuable resource for those dedicated to the development and optimization of these important spaces. Public spaces are instrumental for the wellbeing of the urban population and provide equity in quality of life for communities.
The Toolkit stands out for its comprehensive and accessible approach, featuring key tools such as Places4Wellbeing and the Open Space Resilience + Embedding Reconciliation (Coming Summer 2025). These tools enable a detailed and effective assessment of public spaces, covering fundamental aspects like user wellbeing, climate adaptability and economic impact. With these resources, municipalities and communities can implement significant improvements that enhance both the functionality and positive impact of public spaces.
Moreover, the ability to measure and reflect on the impact of public spaces allows for a deeper understanding of their value and functionality. This approach not only facilitates the identification of areas for improvement but also supports the implementation of effective strategies to transform these spaces into more inclusive and sustainable places. By doing so, it contributes to the strengthening of urban fabric and the overall wellbeing of communities.
At the Urban Resilience Hub by UN-Habitat’s City Resilience Global Programme, we value Evergreen’s commitment and innovative approach to public space evaluation. We celebrate the launch of this Toolkit, which will undoubtedly play a crucial role in creating more resilient and vibrant public spaces, contributing to sustainable urban development and the enrichment of our communities.
