Weather Together: Community-centred Climate Emergency Planning

As climate-related emergencies become more frequent and severe, municipalities face growing pressure to ensure that all residents—especially those most at risk—are prepared, informed and supported. This session explores how municipalities can co-create climate emergency preparedness with communities who are most vulnerable to climate change impacts.
This session will focus on community-centered strategies for outreach and engagement, emphasize the role of partnering with community-based organizations and trusted messengers, building local capacity and resilience. Through municipal and community-based organizations’ case studies, participants will learn how to work alongside community leaders, use culturally relevant communication tools and create preparedness plans that reflect the lived realities of historically marginalized groups.
