Art Performance: The Man In Black performed by Citadel & Compagnie

Choreographed dances to Johnny Cash music

Citadel + Compagnie is a Toronto-based professional dance organization with a mission to have a significant and lasting artistic impact on our society through creation, curation and cultivation.

The Man in Black is an unadorned celebration of American working-class grit and of the man whose gravelly voice embodied it so well, Johnny Cash. Choreographer James Kudelka takes six Cash songs and transforms them into outwardly simple yet choreographically sophisticated dances for an ensemble of three men and a woman, all in cowboy boots. The compounded effect is a deeply moving ode to the human spirit.

This performance is part of Evergreen's Cultural Performing Arts Series, generously presented by Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Learn more about the series and other performances here.
