Green public spaces are essential for physical and mental wellbeing, community resilience to climate change and social cohesion.

This resource is intended to help those working on public space and urban issues in their city and is a good first step in building a public space network inventory. It was designed to enable communities in Canada to understand which places are considered public land, how people are using public spaces and to identify ways to evaluate and prioritize investments.

A comprehensive inventory can serve as a valuable tool for fostering community engagement, encouraging citizen participation in the planning process and ensuring that public spaces reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of the population.

This toolkit consists of:

  • Tool 1: Approaches to Public Space Inventory Data by the Vancouver Public Space Network
  • Tool 2: Quantifying Public Places: Creating a Public Realm Inventory Application for Your Community
